Day One

Standard

I have been looking forward to March 1st for some time now.

My stomach a little nervous.

My mind beginning to see writing topics everywhere.

A visit to my blog, a bit dusty and forlorn.

A meeting, with fellow educators, all eager to write.

At our middle school, a small group of slicers met last week to plan how we would connect and encourage each other as we wrote this month. Ideas were shared for inspiring our students to make a commitment to write. We planned our Slice of Life celebration for all who completed the challenge.

Last year, we ended the Slice of Life Challenge by inviting students and parents to our Writing and Art Fair. Art projects and writing pieces were displayed. Parents, teachers, and students wrote comments on sticky notes and attached them to the pieces.

This year, we will continue our new tradition of celebrating writing. We have added two more teachers and two more classrooms to the challenge.

I have been looking forward to March 1st for some time now.

Our community of writers growing.

Our friendships strengthened.

Bonding through the shared experience of sharing our writing.
